SUSTAINABILITY
Sewunique is dedicated to the fair production and sustainable creation of fun, comfortable and tailor made products. We are constantly looking for ways to improve without compromising on quality, as our goal is to produce well made garments that will last a long time (slow fashion). We promise your underwear won't fall apart or fray in the wash and is worth the investment.
All of our garments are designed and handmade in Australia (lingerie) and Bali (swimwear), either in-house or by outsourcing work to independent tailors. Our fabrics are personally sourced and purchased in small quantities, supporting Australian/local businesses where possible. Since Sewunique started and gradually grew over the years, owner Penny has been hands on in every single step of each process and has a sharp eye for quality and detail.
We love to use dead-stock fabric from other Australian designers that would have otherwise ended up as waste and even up-cycle from pre-loved pieces, such as silk dresses (always stated in the product descriptions) thanks to many of our pattern pieces being small in size. We also welcome you to send us your own pre-loved clothing for a truly special custom piece!
All orders come packaged in a bra bag which is made using fabric offcuts from our lingerie production. This is a way for us to waste even less fabric and help you take better care of your delicate pieces. Please check out our JOURNAL for more information on ethics + sustainability which is engraved in our core values and reasons for starting this brand!
Sewunique focuses strongly on using natural fabrics. All of our underwear are lined with bamboo or cotton which is the byproduct of cutting out our Brazilian lingerie patterns. This creates such a small amount of waste that we throw barely anything away! Not to mention, bamboo is arguably the best textile to line underwear with - it’s breathable, moisture-wicking, antibacterial and extremely soft and comfortable to wear.
Whenever we use other textiles to make lingerie (such as velvet and lace) the underwear is still lined with bamboo or cotton - so they may look beautiful on the outside but are still natural and breathable to wear and are as durable as possible.
We are excited to have recently incorporated ECOLYL into our swimwear range which is an innovative nylon blend made from recycled plastics such as fishing nets.
Sewunique donates $1 from every sale to Ecologi, who plant trees and fund the world's best climate solutions.
We are excited to grow and with new opportunities, find more ways to make beautiful, original and sustainable products that you can treasure for years to come.
